What is your understanding of art education? What is the relationship between education and art? Why educate people about (contemporary) art? 
If you imagine the future, what is it going to be for art education? What are you currently working on?
These are only a few questions we’d like to discuss with Anne Skaansar (KHIB Bergen), Nora Sternfeld (Aalto University, forethought), Jenny Moore (the Partisan café), Konstanze Schütze (agency art education, store contemporary/Berlin & Dresden), Kristin Klein (University of Cologne) and Gila Kolb (The Art Educator’s Talk, University of Cologne).
The Art Educator’s Talk is a trilingual blog and a series of talks that reaches out to art educators who are looking for inspiration or exchange, like-minded people, students who want to learn about the profession, academics, artists and curators who want to know more about art education and you. We engage in conversations with art educators about their practice, favorite formats, pressing questions, underlying or developing theories and visions for a future art education. Anne Skaansar is Associate Professor and Coordinator for the Art teacher education at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts, Norway. She is educated as an artist, and one of her area of focus in research, is the opposites and similarities of beeing an artist and being a teacher. In her artistic practise, her main focus is working in art projects which have a core of humanistic commitment.
Konstanze Schütze, curator and art educator based in Berlin and Dresden. She is co-founder and artistic director of the gallery project (Dresden) with Paul Barsch, and agency art education – an agency for project making in the field of art education with Gila Kolb and Cynthia Krell. Her research focus is on: imagery after the internet (PhD thesis) and artistic strategies in the postdigital. Nora Sternfeld is curator, educator, Professor for Curating and Mediating Art at Aalto University in Helsinki, part of trafo.K, an office for art, education and critical knowledge production based in Vienna and of freethought – a platform for research, pedagogy and production working as artistic director of Bergen Assembly 2016. As a curator she initiated the project the Partisan café.
Jenny Moore is a Canadian artist, musician and educator based in London. She plays in the all-female, all-drum band Charismatic Megafauna and the Kraut-Pop band Bas Jan and works on radical sex education projects with the artist collective Bedfellows. She is the coordinator of the Partisan café at Bergen Assembly 2016.
Kristin Klein, research associate and PhD candidate at the Institute of Art and Art Theory at the University of Cologne; research focus: art and education in the internet state of mind, creative industries, mixed reality and immaterial labor.
Gila Kolb is an art educator, working at Institute of Art and Art Theory, University of Cologne, Germany. She is co-founder of agency art education and co-editor of The Art Educator’s Talk (a three lingual online interview blog). Her focus in research is on: Drawing in Art Education (PhD thesis); Critical Art Education, Art Education in a post-internet state of mind. Recently published: What’s Next? II. Art Education (München: kopaed, 2015), Shift (München: kopaed, 2012).
